The poor conditions and systemic violence exerted in the shelters cause many of these young people to escape to survive on the streets, alone and unprotected. For them, Melilla is the port, the previous step to their final objective, continental Europe. To reach the peninsula they will have to cross— hidden in the bottom of trucks or freight containers— the Mediterranean Sea, the most lethal border in the world.
